History

pastorIn January of 1997, God called me to plant a ministry in Sacramento, California after weeks of prayer and confirmation by some of God's men in the pastor community. The vision of the ministry was laid out in a Sacramento restaurant in the presence of five devoted Christians. The name of the church was established as Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church, and I was elected as Senior Pastor. I then appointed the leadership group to develop the Articles and By-Laws, and Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church was established as a California non-profit corporation on February 14, 1997. The first service was scheduled for the first Sunday of March, 1997. The leaders were charged with the duty to pray about a site for the first service.

The Red Lion Sacramento Inn was chosen after much time and prayer. Our first service had seven people, and after three months we purchased the site located at 6380 63rd Street, Sacramento, CA. When we moved there in June of 1997, we had 47 people. Today our membership is in excess of 400 God-seeking people, and the Lord has continued to bless us with leaders who have stepped up to the plate and demonstrated their commitment to do God's work, providing ministry that has been great for Sacramento.

Over the years, God began to speak to me saying only two words-New Direction and he saw that 'New Direction' was a friendly more inviting name that would appeal to the masses.  'New Direction' does not say denomination, but come join us for new direction.  Our name has since changed and life is better together at New Direction Christian Center.

At New Direction Christian Center, we believe that the most important thing is the uncompromised Word of God and that anyone, regardless of community status, may come as they are. Each person is a somebody at New Direction Christian Center.

Yours truly in Christ Jesus,

Dr. Anthony Wallace
